Who is Sam anyway?

Sam’s Place was started as a way to support the peace-building efforts of Mennonite Central Committee both locally and abroad, while providing a local gathering place. Sam’s is a place to meet neighbours, expand your mind and heart with our thousands of donated books, stay warm, hear local music, and eat homemade, socially and environmentally conscious food at a fair price.

“Sam” is a Komodo Dragon carved out of a single tree that sits as a permanent resident and greeter to Sam’s. For years he stood sentry outside the offices of the MCC at Plaza Drive. He was a great choice for this job as he embodied the fact that MCC’s good works stretch to every part of the globe, including Sam’s original home.

The books here at Sam’s are 100% donated and have reasonable prices written in pencil on the inside cover. There are new titles arriving daily, so check in often.
